Virginia V. Carter, 908 Cherry Circle, Mount Pleasant, died at 4:17 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 1990, at the Henry County Health Center. Born in Veedersburg, Ind., she was the daughter of Karl and Grace Wilkinson Van Devanter. She married John Carter March 22, 1941, in Veedersburg, Ind. She was a graduate of Indiana State University and had taught music in public schools in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant, was an organist in the former Presbyterian church and served two terms as a deacon of the church. She had served on the Mount Pleasant Public Library Board for 23 years. Surviving are her husband; one son, Van Carter; Monterey, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Cynthia (Ronald) Elmquist, Minneapolis, Minn.; three sisters; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Visitation will begin after noon Saturday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant. A luncheon for friends and relatives will be served at 1 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant. The service for Mrs. Carter will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the First Presbyterian Church, the Mount Pleasant Public Library and the American Cancer Society.
